Hi xty, It's true, imbalances to do with hormones and blood sugar can make acting on new behaviors seem near impossible at times. However, having battled severe physical imbalances myself and not always being able to medically pinpoint the problem, I know it's possible to override even the most intense impulse, mainly because I learned it would eventually pass. But definitely, you're right, if there's any question of a physical imbalance, do everything to address it and if it can't be eliminated entirely, just acknowledging that it may be the culprit in a difficult emotional moment can be very helpful in riding it out.

Nice to see you and, yes, I've been on hiatus but I'm still around for comments:-)

looks like this blog is on hiatus, but for those who still come upon it in searches I wanted to add this comment: while I agree with the matter of treating emotions (because feelings ARE facts in the sense that folks base decisions And behaviour on them, PMS and hypoglycemia are nearly criminally overlooked in recovery treatment. That's all I got. use Google, your intuition, your heart, and never give up. (9 months)

I agree with Go-Go Rach, people are taught by treatment professionals to think they have a disease so they use that as an excuse not to slip or relapse or whatever the heck you want to call it... drink. There was a great comment left on an article the fix ran last week on Dr. Stanton Peele, anti alcoholism=disease expert. Hope it's okay to post here, I think it fits:

"Treatment creates more problems than it solves. It is no coincidence that since the 1990's, the number of people who have actually successfully quit smoking has decreased. This was right around the time when NRT (gum, patch), and now chantix hit the market. Prior to this, save the occasional traveling hypnotist, people had to actually QUIT SMOKING. Now they want "treatment" because "quitting sucks" (to quote the commercials). There is no treatment for addiction." --JQ

I love your "two Amys" way of presenting this right on approach, Amy. Great post.

Hi FinallyFree, I'm so glad you were able to trust yourself over AA's powerless message. I know it's not easy working through all the sadness and confusion, but freedom from fearing that sadness and confusion is so worth it! Thanks for writing and for adding another light to the ever-growing crowd of people who have freed themselves from the judgments and the "one size fits all" approach of AA.

<em>"Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."</em>

Thank you Thank you!! Talk about your wildest dreams coming true?! I had no idea there was someone out there that thought exactly like I do. As a survivor of the AA brainwashing... I completely agree that AA is warped and twisted in its efforts to "help" people. How can they say that their threats of relapse and devastation (if you leave the rooms of AA) is an answer to alcohol abuse? Notice I don't use the word alcoholism. I drank heavily for many years to drown out sadness and confusion. I was completely lost in this world. Now that I have "found myself", alcohol plays no role in my life. I don't turn to it as a trusted friend anymore... nor do I fear it having "power" over me. I took back my own power... and the alcohol faded into the background. Now, I know I'd be strung up the flagpole if I uttered one word of this to The Steppers... because they hold tight to their belief that they are the only way. Because if there's another way... then their whole program crumbles. Kinda like religion.. but don't get me started on that :) Thank you thank you... for speaking out!! There is another way... to be finally free from addiction... and I've found it too :)
